Our Class names

Each class adopts a new country or city or state or landmark every year and learns about its culture and other fascinating facts. Over the last few years we have travelled the world and found out about: England, Scotland, Wales, Seychelles, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Ivory Coast, Cape Verde, Ghana, Chad, Sudan, Italy, Iceland, Hungary, Poland, Malta, Cyprus, Sardinia & Corsica, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Greece, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Guatemala, Brazil, Cuba, Peru, Egypt, Finland, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Morocco, Norway, Sweden, Tunisia, Denmark, The Netherlands, Ireland, Switzerland, Turkey.

We’ve also been UK cities: Newcastle Upon Tyne, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Bradford, Liverpool and Bristol.

PSHE Lessons

We value PSHE very highly at Pentland. Each class has a regular PSHE lesson as well as being taught through opportunities presented across the curriculum. We use the PSHE Association’s Programme of Study for PSHE Education to ensure that our provision meets the needs of today’s pupils and supports us in fulfilling our statutory responsibility to safeguard pupils, to support their spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development and to prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life.

Topics covered through our PSHE program include:

Health & Wellbeing: Lucinda & Godfrey, emergency first aid skills, Good to be me, dealing with different feelings and emotions, The effects of alcohol, drugs and smoking, healthy foods, healthy lifestyles, Heartstart, making choices, being safe, e-safety.

Relationships: healthy and unhealthy relationships, resolving conflict, bullying, challenging homophobia (CHIPS scheme).

Living in the Wider World (Economic Well being and being a responsible citizen): responsibility, democracy, the UK parliament, Fairtrade, understand poverty, animal welfare, enterprise and financial awareness.
